We had a very successful event in May 2017.,
Didi DIY run a two days workshop to renovate Evolution Arts community kitchen with paying participants.
We were very lucky to find an office kitchen for free on FreeCycle, and we picked up cupboards, shelf unit and a 15 feet long kitchen top from an office in North Rd, Brighton.
We also went to the Wood Store and collected some wood pallets for cheap, that reduced our expenses by a lot!
The ladies arrived at 10.30am, eager to spend the day to learn how to use the right tools and feel confident to do the right gestures with the tools for the best results.
Our professional trader Chris was present all throughout the day to accompany them in the making.
We broke apart and sanded the pallets, learn to cut safely the wood with a mitre saw, sanded the wood pallets, dismantled the kitchen units and cut safely the old kitchen top with a huge electric saw ,(saber saw) to fit the new one.
We built a little unit to sit the fridge on also. The ladies cut the wood, used the drill confidently, with the right screws, after having practiced outside on some waste bits.
We stopped for a while to eat a vegetarian lunch together and gather more strength, all in a very friendly atmosphere.
We carried on until 4.30pm and the results were very pleasing.
We run 5 more workshops to finish the renovation of the kitchen. Fitting the kitchen top and adding more shelves and storage in the room.
